Nippon-NOLA challenge: week 3
October 24, 2012
Congrats to Masashi for winning the second round of the Nippon-Nola Challenge. The Caucasian man who grew up in a Japanese household and played for a New Orleans professional sports team is former Saints linebacker Scott Fujita. Masashi gets $20 to use in our online store.
Also, Mark Folse, a contributor to Where We Know: New Orleans as Home
, recently ran into Lafcadio Hearn's great-grandson, Bon Koizumi, at the Yakumo Japanese Garden in New Orleans! He writes about it on his blog
. Very cool. Sounds like Mark is pretty handy at haiku too. Feel like sharing one with us, Mark?
Our third question in the challenge:
What famous New Orleans cafe has a branch in Tokyo? Plus, we'll throw in an extra $20 if you can tell us what extra menu item the Tokyo version of the cafe has.

I don't know anything about Japanese deserts and sweets, but I am guessing Cafe du Monde must serve tea.Bruce
Sorry for the late reply, Mark. You're right about Cafe du Monde. However, the extra menu item we were looking for isn't tea. It's something quintessentially American -- or at least quintessentially American in the eyes of the Japanese.
