When the levees broke, everything changed for New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. A.D.: New Orleans After the Deluge is about surviving Hurricane Katrina—and its aftermath. Told in webcomic form, A.D. is written and illustrated by Josh Neufeld, and presented by Smith Magazine.
Chapter 1 of Neufield's web comic on life after Katrina, is up at Smith Magazine. Be sure to also read the blog for info on how Neufield has written this work and what he's trying to accomplish. The blog also highlights other unique post-Katrina happenings including this exhibit of abandoned drawers in the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. I don't know how I missed hearing about it but what a wicked cool way to show what tragedy looks like. Here's a taste of the word from those who contributed drawers to the project:
I thought New Orleans would be a good place to go for rain and history, and it was.” . . . . “Having to throw your furniture out in front of your house -- your life is sort of taken from you and sort of dumped out in your front yard.” . . . . “New Orleans was here before America was here and we are a part of America.”
