More than just another 'Kawaii' face
Bruce Rutledge
June 16, 2011

I joined the "lamestream" media for a moment the other day and posted a story on a CNN website about Japan's "kawaii" youth movement. It's a piece about Sebastian Masuda of 6% Dokidoki and whether this colorful fashion trend that brightens the streets of Tokyo can morph into a social movement akin to the punk and hippie movements of yore. I take some flack for even raising the issue -- some people say the "kawaii" subculture is about cutesy stuff and nothing more. But the question is serious. I'd be interested in hearing what you think about the Planet of Kawaii, as Masuda calls it.
